Material Perception and Human

When we look at the perception of material in architecture, it is possible to consider the issue from two different perspectives: the user’s perception of the material and the architect’s relationship with the design.
The important detail in the process of the user’s perception of an object is that the perception never remains constant at the end of the process and can be updated again.
The material in the space creates the texture there.
The user’s experience of space and material does not only take place through visual perception.
All sensory features of the user are stimulated.
A feeling of warmth or coldness may occur with the interpretation of perception.
A smell in memory can define a space.
Just like smell, texture also has images in our minds.
Therefore, materials changing with developing technologies may cause differences in the perception of the person.

These differences can gather different tastes in the same interpretation.
The fact that there are different opinions for more than one user in the same space is related to the perception created by the space on people.
At this point, the experience that the architect wants to give to the user while designing a building should be established by the relationship of both parties with the material.
As in the buildings of famous architects, it is possible to design by using the material in accordance with its essence with its texture and smell.
It is very important to create a solution to the problem of the architect remaining connected with the material itself in the design process and creating confusion in the user’s perception, and to preserve the existence of architecture and material culture that will contribute to the existing perception, memory and experience.   Irem Katkat Interior Architect
